What we do
From a tired daily driver that needs an honest recondition, to a competition short motor assembled to tight clearances — it's the same workshop, the same measuring gear, the same standard.
Full strip-down, clean, crack-test and measure. Worn components machined or replaced, then assembled back to factory clearances with new bearings, seals and gaskets.
Pressure testing, surface machining, valve and seat work, guides, springs and reassembly — single cam, twin cam, petrol or diesel.
Balanced rotating assemblies, forged pistons and rods, ported heads, higher compression and boost-ready short motors — specced around your target, your fuel and your rules.
Inboard and sterndrive petrol engines rebuilt for the loads boats actually see — sustained throttle, heat and a wet environment.
Boring and honing, deck and head surfacing, crankshaft grinding, rod resizing, line boring and flywheel machining. Trade work welcome.
Not sure if it's worth rebuilding? Bring it in. We'll assess the damage, tell you what it needs, what it doesn't, and what it costs before anything is committed.
What comes through the door
A workshop that only does one engine family gets narrow. We've built the common Aussie V8s and sixes, four-cylinder turbo motors, hard-worked 4WD diesels, pre-war and classic engines where parts have to be made, and marine blocks that live at wide-open throttle.
Daily driver, weekend project, tow vehicle or race car — tell us how it gets used and we'll build it for that, rather than selling you parts it doesn't need.
Talk about your buildHow it works
Call the workshop and describe the engine, the symptoms and how the vehicle or boat is used. We'll tell you straight away whether it's worth bringing in.
The engine comes apart, gets cleaned and measured. You get the real picture — what's serviceable, what's scrap, and a written quote before work starts.
Machining is done in-house, so tolerances are controlled by the same people doing the assembly. Clearances are checked and recorded as it goes together.
You leave with the engine, the specs it was built to, and clear run-in instructions — because the first few hundred kilometres decide how long it lasts.
About the workshop
Harris Engine Motorsports works out of Unit 2, 80-84 Milperra Road, Revesby — in the middle of South-West Sydney's industrial belt, a few minutes off the M5.
Plenty of engines get rebuilt by one shop and machined by another, with nobody owning the final result. Here the machining and the assembly happen under one roof, so the person setting the bore is the person checking the piston clearance. That's the whole reason the shop is set up this way.
We work for retail customers, mechanics, restorers and racers. Drop in, or call first and we'll make sure someone's free to look at it with you.
Pick up the phone — two minutes on the line usually saves a tow truck.
